Must do: Visit Knokke-Heist during wintertime

Do you also like to get a breath of fresh air at the Belgian Coast? Most Belgians like to go out during spring and summer to visit Knokke-Heist and other seaside resorts. During the winter, our coastal cities are less visited, but a destination such as Knokke-Heist has so much more to offer than a beach holiday.

Get a breath of fresh air in the Zwin Nature Park

Even during the coldest and darkest days, the Zwin has a lot of beauty to offer. Visit the park or - like us - take a nice winter walk in the Zwin Dunes and Polders. This reserve is more than 222 hectares and forms a natural transition between sea, dunes and polders. We were lucky enough to encounter some beautiful Scottish highland cattle during our walk. Below, you will find more information about our walk and you can also download it.

Discover the beautiful light art walk of Light Art (until January 9th)

A creative trail full of light art installations for the whole family.

Light ART is a permanent fixture during the end-of-year period in Knokke-Heist. This walk provides the necessary animation and atmosphere during the darkest days of the year. Using an app on your smartphone, you can easily find all the installations. Count on about 1 hour to explore the 2.5 km route.

Where to stay?

We stayed at the beautiful and imposing Hotel Brittania. The building is a historic Norman villa and is situated in the centre of Knokke-Heist. The welcome is generous and warm and immediately gives you that 'welcome home' feeling. This hotel has recently been completely renovated and the rooms are modern and warmly decorated. The breakfast was truly heavenly. This hotel is officially a 3* hotel, but we have stayed in several 5* hotels where you don't get such a large breakfast offer.
This hotel is definitely recommended thanks to its central location, personalised service, beautifully decorated rooms and a full breakfast buffet to start the day.
