O bord de la Lesse (Gendron)

Description

Starting point in the village of Celles, with an immediate steep uphill start (difference in altitude of 250m). Occasionally look back and you will see the fairytale castle of Vêves in the distance. Next, you hike through amazing landscapes, the beautiful views you get for free. We had planned our lunch break at the passage with the Lesse River. This is also a starting point for the various kayaking trips. On the spot you can buy drinks and snacks and there are toilets.
Next the hike goes around the nature park of Furfooz and the rocks of aiguilles de Chaleux. After a little more than 8km you'll see the most imposing castle of Belgium emerge, the castle of Walzin. Unfortunately it can't be visited, but from the meadow you have a beautiful view on this neo-Gothic castle.
Before starting the second part (after having returned via the railway) it is advisable to take a little break, because afterwards there is a long climb of more than 1,5 km. Once at the top, you will certainly be rewarded with beautiful views!
We finish at the castle of Vêves, this beautiful castle stands on top of a rock and has 5 beautiful towers. It is still inhabited, but it is open for visits. However, we skipped the visit because we were starting to feel very tired.
